Peer Services
Circare’s certified Peer Specialists provide Empowerment Services and Peer Support through the perspective of shared life experiences. Services focus on rehabilitation, recovery and resiliency. Services are designed to help individuals improve their quality of life by developing coping skills, managing behavioral symptoms and utilizing natural supports and resources. A trauma-informed, non-clinical approach is used to promote lasting recovery from a mental health or substance use disorder.
The individual works with a Peer Specialist to identify goals and the skill development needed to reach those goals. The Specialist assists the individual in building those skills in a variety of ways, which may include, but is not limited to:
- Encouraging goals that promote community connection, wellness, spirituality, employment, self-help and safety
- Modeling a lifestyle of recovery
- Educating and coaching the individual about recovery
- Strengthening the individual’s belief in their own abilities to reach their goals
- Supporting the individual speaking up for themselves
- Assisting with selection and implementation of tools for recovery and preventing relapse
- Promoting wellness, developing and implementing wellness and crisis prevention plans
- Helping individuals connect with natural supports
- Promoting awareness of community resources for recovery and removal of barriers
- Encouraging individuals to pursue passions which bring quality and meaning to life
- Creating a “tool box” to help deal with intense emotions, symptoms and triggers
- Connecting the individual with other support services that help enhance and sustain their recovery
Peer Specialists do not provide care management, personal care, housekeeping, shopping or errands, transportation, meals or snacks. Only goal-related transportation may be provided.
Peer Support services are provided with an individual only, and not in groups.
Services are available daily by appointment, 8:30AM – 5:00PM except weekends and holidays.
The individual selects where they wish to meet, in their home, in their community, such as the library or a coffee shop, or if they chose, in the Circare offices.
